Romance in Venice...

George Clooney is arriving in Venice Italy I hear on the television. Nothing newsworthy, but it tracks my attention right away.

Back come the unforgettable memories from our journey to this unique place just a couple of weeks ago. I was the one who begged my love to play romantic on the streets of Venice. It would be the icing on the cake, a highlight of our 3 weeks together.

It was on a beautiful Thursday. Very early in the morning, when the dew is yet to ascend from the mountains, we drove the 380 km from our holiday destination towards the Adriatic sea. I was very excited: finally I was gonna visit the city of water, the location to wear those colourful decorated carnival masks, to see the small canals and a city floating more then The Netherlands.

Ciao Italia! The arriving, after 4 hours driving, was a little chaotic. Cars everywhere and only one last place to park. The city stretches around 117 islands, so we had no idea if we had to continue by boat. Smart to advertise for it, as many around us bought a boat ticket. We were a little smarter (as paying toll for the Brennerpas and the parking ticket had already cost us 61 euros) and looked at what the locals did.

While ofcourse the Piazzo San Marco had to be the highlight, we start walking towards the main reason everybody visits Venice. The temperature, early in the morning, was already far above 30. We passed the canals, the little restaurants where Italians told us they made the best pizza and spaghetti in town, and the narrow footpaths. Our eyes saw the singing gondoliers in their romantic Gondolas, the bridge of Sighs, the typical Venice masks shown in the petite shops and our feet stand on the Rialto bridge.

Every transport in Venice is or by boat or on foot. There are 409 bridges and they serve as roads for the many tourists. The expensive Gondola seems lovely to do. The Gondolas look so romantic with there velvet seats and Persian rugs. Romantic on your honnymoon? The more romance the more to pay.

The temperatures rised above 40 degrees and their we're walking accompanied by thousands of other tourists. The (ofcourse) ice cream melted before we could enjoy it's delicious taste. But the ooh and aah came out of my mouth all the time. Beautiful and a must visit place for once in your life. Enjoy the many pictures.
