Beach Time Without a Ticket...

I've got enough tickets in my life. For driving throught red light, for driving too fast and for parking without paying. I also got a ticket for cycling without light. My comment to the police officer was not well received: "I can pay more tickets then you can write." I almost got another ticket for offend a man in police duty.

As summer brought a shining sun to my lovely country, it was time to hit the beach with the best male company I could bring along with me. It took a while before we found a parking place as their was an invasion to the beach going on. As we didn't run enough coins to fill the parking we had to walk back 2 times. The first time we where late. 500 metres before our car we saw 2 police officers on their bicycle doing what they had to do: surprise latecomers with a ticket. Hmm, not a good sign, so we walked slowly to the car. Two lucky birds smiled when there was no ticket to be seen. We payed for a few more hours, because we weren't finished enjoying our lovely trip.

A few hours later we where enjoying a delicious dinner in a restaurant. As I left some space in my tummy, it was time for dessert. Ofcourse, ice cream time. The moment we ordered our dessert we noticed it was 8 o'clock. 20 minutes before we had to get our car. As we where having a blast, time wasn't on our minds, oh no!

As we ate our cold dessert in a hurry, we knew the chances for second luck where low. I told my boyfriend that I would kiss the ticket, because at the end it was very funny. We started to walk the 2,2 kilometres to the car. 200 metres before the car we noticed a police officer. Our feet went faster and faster. How lucky could we get? Believe me, it was our lucky day. No ticket! As luck was in our hands we should have bought a lottery ticket as well...

Apple Walk...

Today, early in the morning, a 4 days continuously festivity is starting in the Dutch city of Nijmegen. The reason of all the festivities is walking. And we're not talking about a small walk, but at least 40 kilometres a day to earn a golden medail and a bunch gladioli when you finish on the fourth day.

I grew up with the 4 days walk festivities, althought I never walked 160 kilometres in 4 days. I've seen the pain, the blisters and all the tears. And I admire the perseverance and willpower of all those international walkers. As the Tour de France brings fame and EPO to the riders, the walkers who come to Nijmegen are walking for themselves and ofcourse the welcome arrival on the fourth day at the Via Gladiola.

A special memory comes from a sleepover when I was young, with my aunt and uncle, in a place close to Nijmegen. The thousands of walkers walked through this authentic peasant village. As my family owned a apple farm, we could offer the walkers a apple for some needed energy. I handed out a apple to anyone who wanted, and I will never forget those grateful faces. As if that apple was there first meal in weeks.

Ofcourse I have plans to do this walk once in my life. As I'm only 33 now and the oldest who walks today is 92, you can count how many years I can still practice before it will be my turn. Honest, I'm not sure I could ever go so deep for doing that. I need at least a cover and a page ad in a National newspaper. Ofcourse I get a royal distinction. But most of all I need an apple, given to me by a little girl, who watches me with big eyes full of respect...

One Hell Funny Complainer...

My boyfriend introduced me with the American comedian Jeff Dunham. I think it's freaking awesome, especially because my boy watched it so often he knows exactly the coming words and jokes. Kinda cute, in my believe. I knew Achmed the terrorist (too funny for words), but my favorite is Walter, the funny complainer. We all know a person like that, but I'm not sure they are that funny. Enjoy, from the DVD Sparkle of Insanity, the conversation between Jeff and Walter...

The New Rembrandt...

This story is a sequel to a real story...

Before my nephew Roman hopped in bed he took the book in his hands. He looked at me with a smile and said: "You have to read a story from this book." I took it by hand and gave the cover a good look. A book about the history of Holland. My thoughts went away from the place where I was. I used to love history and I am glad that Roman also can appreciate the earlier days. I let him choose out of 3 stories and felt excited he choose the story of Rembrandt.

As much as I love the emotional paintings of VanGogh, I also can appreciate the style Rembrandt brings to the table. His paintings show a totally different time ara and viewing his detailed paintings brings me back in time.
I loved the special reading time together with the new Dutch drawing talent sitting next to me. This sure was a much better story, Roman knows what he should appreciate at such an early age. When I finished the story I told Roman: "It is time for the new Rembrandt to go to sleep." "Can I be the new Rembrandt?, he asked me with a huge grin. "If you keep practicing as you do now I will buy all your future paintings," I smiled at Roman. And with that I gave him a hug and kiss, a kid needs a lot of dreaming before he can take the world by storm...

Don't Take a Bite...

I love the American style when it comes to cake. They pimp up their cakes, so I could never resist myself from eating them. It's a good thing I don't find my feet on American soil. I think that would double my weight. But the next American style cakes are safe. Not to eat thought...

Fashion Uniform...

I have a closet full of clothes. Fashion is something I really love and a way to express my personality to the outside world. I could not imagine myself wearing one single outfit for a very long time. Ofcourse I do have my favorite stunning outfit, that I do wear more often. But imagining myself wearing that for a year, is not possible.
Sheena Matheiken, a British lady who has her roots in India, is trying to wear the same outfit for one year. She started May 2009 with the Uniform Project. Since sheena is educated in India herself, she had to wear a school uniform to school. Children in India express their personality, with decorating their uniform with accessories. That inspired Sheena for this project.

"There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day she will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. Think of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like she just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade's boudoir.

The Uniform Project is also a year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots movement that is revolutionizing education in India. At the end of the year, all contributions will go toward Akanksha’s School Project to fund uniforms and other educational expenses for slum children in India."

I'm a fan of Sheena. Her idea is ingenious: combining fashion with a good cause sounds excellent! Check her website, it's worth a (daily) visit. You can donate money or accesories for her good cause, come on give her the pro. I will follow her for this year, that's for sure and where can I buy that dress?

Wether Madness in View...

As I told you July 3th we had a cloud burst in Boxmeer, the town I live in. To give you a view here are the pictures of what became a disaster for many. The first picture has been taken in the entrance-hall of my appartment building. The second is the flood that surprised the street I live in. And the last 3 are taken in a parking-lot, where 28 cars got totall loss of the water damage.

Hidden Talent of Babies...

Babies need their parents close around them. For food, nursering, pampering and lots of love. In a way they seems helpless, seems... They do have some hidden talents. Especially when you give them Evian water. What's wrong with mothermilk? Enjoy this hilarious contribution of my friend Jasmin!

Thanks Jasmin!

Weather Madness...

As my part of Holland got spoiled with warmth and our tans got a souther color, we Dutch knew this could not last too long.

Weather in Holland is very unpredictable. The only thing for sure is, that the weather people on Dutch national TV do have the most thankless job. As we Dutch share a nature of complaining and whine, we think we never get what we want. When the sun spoils us we complain that it's too hot, and when the rain surprises us, we grumble that it's always raining in our small country.

I was warned. After a morning full of sunshine I left my house. I saw clouds above, a sky that got darker and darker. At the moment I was at the store it began to rain. And not just a little bit, I was in the middle of a cloud-burst! The tunder warned me not to go outside. We get lots of rain in Holland, but so many at one time is not very common. At the moment I got what I needed out of the store, I decided that I would not be a sugar head.

Well honest, the lights of my car were still on. If I wanted to make sure I could bring my car home, I had to leave the comfortable dry store. Without a umbrella and in my shorts, shirt and slippers I ran to my car. In not even 5 seconds I was totally wet. Driving home was not easy, my wipers could not keep up with the speed of the rain. The water on the road was also risky. Back home I had two choices, waiting in my car or walking to my house. It takes 2 minutes to walk to my house. How wet can I get, I was soaked already. With my arms in the sky I walked slowly to my house. Believe me: I enjoyed every second of this heavenly shower...

It seems that 70 mm rain did fall down in my small village.
