As my part of Holland got spoiled with warmth and our tans got a souther color, we Dutch knew this could not last too long. Weather in Holland is very unpredictable. The only thing for sure is, that the weather people on Dutch national TV do have the most thankless job. As we Dutch share a nature of complaining and whine, we think we never get what we want. When the sun spoils us we complain that it's too hot, and when the rain surprises us, we grumble that it's always raining in our small country.
I was warned. After a morning full of sunshine I left my house. I saw clouds above, a sky that got darker and darker. At the moment I was at the store it began to rain. And not just a little bit, I was in the middle of a cloud-burst! The tunder warned me not to go outside. We get lots of rain in Holland, but so many at one time is not very common. At the moment I got what I needed out of the store, I decided that I would not be a sugar head. Well honest, the lights of my car were still on. If I wanted to make sure I could bring my car home, I had to leave the comfortable dry store. Without a umbrella and in my shorts, shirt and slippers I ran to my car. In not even 5 seconds I was totally wet. Driving home was not easy, my wipers could not keep up with the speed of the rain. The water on the road was also risky. Back home I had two choices, waiting in my car or walking to my house. It takes 2 minutes to walk to my house. How wet can I get, I was soaked already. With my arms in the sky I walked slowly to my house. Believe me: I enjoyed every second of this heavenly shower...
It seems that 70 mm rain did fall down in my small village.
